Sixers star Embiid sidelined with knee swelling
Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid will miss the team's upcoming three-game road trip with swelling in his surgically repaired left knee, the NBA team said Friday.
It's just the latest setback for the Cameroon-born big man who won Olympic basketball gold with the United States in Paris last year.
Embiid has played in just 13 games this season. He missed the Sixers' last six games with a sprained left foot. Before that he had been playing in a protective mask after suffering a sinus fracture when he took a blow to the face in a game, an injury that caused him to miss one game.
He missed multiple games because of trouble with his knee and was suspended three games for a physical altercation with a journalist.
"Joel Embiid participated in an on-court workout yesterday after missing the last six games due to a left foot sprain," the team said in a statement.
"While the foot sprain hs healed, Embiid experienced an increase in swelling in his left knee following the workout.
"After consulting with team medical staff and external doctors, Embiid will receive treatment in the coming days to address the swelling. As a result he will be OUT for the upcoming road trip and be reevaluated in approximately 7-10 days."
The 76ers have gone 8-18 without Embiid this year and at 15-24 they are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
